Jim's 1953 FX Holden.

Jim & Cheryl attended the 3rd annual Vintage Truck and Tractor Show, hosted by Golden Oldies Truck Club held recently in Dubbo. A massive covered shed held over 153 vehicles, trade stalls, entertainment area, and a dining room that could seat over 500 people.

“Old Girl” (Jim’s 1953 FX) was privileged to be displayed in this huge shed, together with other Queensland vehicles including a 1912 International truck, 1907 Brush, 1921 GMC, 1919 Napier, 1950 Ford, 1956 Scania to name just a few. Many vehicles had been restored to their previous glory, and with their history provided a spectacular display.

After the Grand Parade on Sunday, we departed for home via Dunedoo, Coolah and Gunnedah for an overnight stop. Next morning it was cold and foggy to Tamworth and around 10km from Armidale there was snow on the edge of the road and this continued for the next 100 kms, almost to Glenn Innes. Guyra was covered in thick snow. There were a couple of ‘sago’ snow showers between Glenn Innes and Tenterfield.

We arrived home around 5 pm and “Old Girl” had clocked up another mile stone. At 424,000 miles as it was 400,000 miles earlier that she was driven in snow for the first time at 24,000 miles, just after Jim had bought her in 1956 and 52 years later to the month.
